Tension is building ahead of Galatasaray’s massive Champions League showdown with Liverpool FC and all eyes are now on Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles striker could be walking into Tuesday night’s clash at RAMS Park on a disciplinary tightrope, and one wrong move might cost his team dearly.

One Yellow Card Could Change Everything

Osimhen already has two yellow cards in this season’s Champions League campaign after picking them up in earlier matches against Atlético Madrid and Juventus FC.

If he receives just one more yellow card against Liverpool, the Nigerian goal machine will automatically miss the crucial return leg at Anfield next week.

For Galatasaray, that could be a serious blow.

Osimhen has been one of the club’s biggest weapons in Europe and currently holds the record as Galatasaray’s highest-scoring foreign player in Champions League history.

Coach Okan Buruk Cries Out to UEFA

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has now called on UEFA to review the yellow-card suspension rule, saying it has become unfair due to the expanded Champions League format.

According to him, the rule was designed when teams played far fewer matches.

Back then, clubs played only six group-stage games before moving straight to the Round of 16. But now, the competition has grown bigger, with eight league-phase matches plus an extra knockout round.

Because of this, Buruk believes the yellow-card suspension threshold should be increased.

“UEFA absolutely needs to change this after the number of matches increases,” he said during a press conference.

Galatasaray Facing Suspension Crisis

The situation is even more worrying because Osimhen is not the only player at risk.

Several Galatasaray stars are also one yellow card away from suspension, including:

  • Goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır
  • Defenders Ismail Jakobs, Davinson Sánchez, Abdülkerim Bardakcı, and Roland Sallai
  • Forward Noa Lang

Even coach Buruk himself is close to a touchline ban. One more booking could stop him from leading the team from the sidelines in the second leg in England.

Liverpool Also Feeling the Heat

It’s not just Galatasaray feeling the pressure.

Liverpool players Conor Bradley and Curtis Jones are also one yellow card away from suspension.

Meanwhile, injured striker Alexander Isak will miss the clash entirely, giving Galatasaray a slight advantage.

Remember What Happened Last Time…

Interestingly, both teams already met earlier in this season’s Champions League league phase — and Galatasaray came out on top.

The Turkish giants defeated Liverpool 1-0 at home, with none other than Osimhen scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.

Now the big question is:

Can Osimhen deliver another hero performance without picking up the yellow card that could rule him out of the next game?

One thing is certain Tuesday night’s clash will be full of drama, tension, and serious Champions League energy.
