Nigerian singer and songwriter Liya has revealed the real reason behind her exit from Davido Music Worldwide, the label owned by Afrobeats star Davido.

She had earlier confirmed her departure in 2023 during an Instagram Q&A, where she told a fan:

Speaking on a recent episode of Wahala with Josy Anne, the singer opened up about the emotional struggles she faced during her time at the label.
“I just wanted more for myself, as a person and as an artist. It was sad, it was depressing, I was tired, I was sick, but it was a decision I had to make for myself,” she said.
She added that many people believed she had everything under control, not knowing what she was going through behind the scenes.

Liya revealed that during that period, she was heavily criticized and misunderstood by the public, with some accusing her of being lazy and unproductive.
“People called me names. They said I was lazy and didn’t know what I was doing, that money was being spent on me and I wasn’t delivering,” she said.
📱 Social Media Became a Struggle
The situation took a toll on her confidence, to the point where she couldn’t even manage her own social media accounts.
For about two to three years, Liya said she relied on her manager to handle her Instagram posts completely.
“I didn’t even post by myself. I would arrange everything and send it to my manager to upload,” she explained.

Despite everything, Liya praised her manager for standing by her through the difficult period.
She noted that although it wasn’t easy for him, he remained patient and never forced her to do anything she wasn’t ready for.
“He was tired, but he understood me. He was very patient and never pushed me,” she added.
