The news that Nigerian Ambassador Lele dies at the age of 50 has shocked the country’s diplomatic community. The senior foreign service officer reportedly passed away in Ankara, Turkey, where he had been receiving medical treatment.


📰 Nigerian Ambassador Lele Dies in Turkey

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Lele died in the early hours of April 19 after a prolonged illness. His death comes just weeks after he was confirmed as Nigeria’s envoy to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, described him as a dedicated and distinguished officer who served Nigeria with excellence across several international assignments.


🌍 A Distinguished Diplomatic Career

Before his passing, Ambassador Lele served as Director in charge of the Middle East and Gulf Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His diplomatic career spanned multiple countries, including:

  • Berlin, Germany
  • Lomé, Togo
  • Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Throughout his service, he earned recognition for his professionalism, strategic thinking, and deep understanding of foreign policy.


🎓 Early Life and Education

Ambassador Lele was born in Gamawa, Bauchi State, in 1976. He studied Economics at Bayero University, Kano, before joining Nigeria’s diplomatic service, where he steadily rose through the ranks.


🕊️ Tributes Pour In as Nigerian Ambassador Lele Dies

Following the news that Nigerian Ambassador Lele dies, tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and government officials.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, described him as:

“A hardworking, humble and fine officer, who will be sorely missed.”

The ministry also highlighted his intellectual depth, professionalism, and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.


⚰️ Burial Arrangements and Final Journey

Ambassador Lele’s remains were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by senior officials. He was later laid to rest in Kano according to Islamic rites.

The ministry described his passing as a “monumental loss” not just to his family but to Nigeria’s entire diplomatic community.
