The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Sowore will remain in custody until Wednesday, when the court resumes hearing his trial over a two-count cybercrime charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS). The charges stem from a social media post in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
The court revoked Sowore’s bail after he failed to appear for the continuation of his trial on June 16, prompting Justice Mohammed Umar to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Sowore, who is representing himself after his legal team withdrew from the case, also failed in a bid to have Justice Umar removed from the trial over alleged bias. The judge dismissed the application and ordered the case to continue.
