At least 12 people have been confirmed dead following a deadly overnight attack by gunmen on the Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall district of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday while residents were asleep, throwing the community into panic as gunmen stormed the area and opened fire sporadically.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, told journalists that 12 victims lost their lives during the assault and had already been buried in a mass grave.
“From the information we received, 12 people were killed in the attack and the victims had already been buried this morning,” Alfred stated while expressing sadness over the tragic incident.

Although police authorities did not provide further details about the victims, reports indicate that about 13 people were affected in the attack, including three pregnant women.
A community member, Philip Alanga, said the attackers invaded the community around midnight, shooting continuously and forcing terrified residents to flee for safety.
The latest attack has once again raised concerns over the recurring violence in Plateau communities, especially within Bassa LGA and surrounding areas.

Reacting to the development, Danjuma Auta, Secretary-General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), condemned the killings and called on security agencies to urgently apprehend those responsible.
He stressed the need for swift justice to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace to affected communities across the state.
