Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has accused former governor and senator, Gbenga Daniel, of sponsoring negative media campaigns against him amid rising political tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
The allegation was made on Tuesday during the Ogun East APC stakeholders’ meeting, where Abiodun was recently endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
Growing APC Tension in Ogun State
The development follows internal disputes within the APC after Gbenga Daniel was reportedly excluded from a caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode, where Abiodun received endorsement support.
Daniel rejected the outcome of the meeting, describing it as “null and void,” further deepening the political rift.
Despite the endorsement, Daniel has reportedly obtained the APC nomination form to seek re-election to the Senate.
Addressing party stakeholders, Abiodun recalled his past political relationship with Daniel, stating that he played a key role in supporting his rise.
He also claimed he supported Daniel’s political journey, including helping his emergence as a senator and facilitating his return to the APC.
“I Leave Him to His Conscience” – Abiodun
The governor further alleged that Daniel is now responding with media attacks instead of acknowledging past support.
“If Governor Daniel now believes that the only way to repay me is by sponsoring negative media attacks against me, I leave him to his conscience,” Abiodun said.

Abiodun urged APC leaders in Ogun East to remain united, expressing confidence in the party’s strength ahead of future elections.
He also reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that Ogun State would deliver strong electoral support for the ruling party.
