Suspected members of Boko Haram / ISWAP terrorists on Thursday evening launched a deadly attack on Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
Residents who fled the area told Vanguard that the insurgents began shooting sporadically while setting homes on fire, forcing villagers to escape into nearby bushes for safety.
Residents Flee as Gunmen Set Buildings Ablaze
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire echoed across the community and buildings were engulfed in flames.
Many families reportedly abandoned their homes in panic, with no immediate confirmation of casualties at the time of reporting.
This latest assault comes weeks after a similar tragic incident on March 30, 2026, when terrorists invaded the same Kautikari community around 6 p.m.
During that attack:
The commanding officer of local hunters, Mallam Bumto, was killed
Johanna Peter, a bride-to-be, was also murdered just days before her wedding
Several other residents lost their lives
The attack also led to widespread destruction, looting of food supplies, and displacement of residents who had only recently returned to the community.
Security Source Confirms Ongoing Attack
A security personnel from Kautikari, currently based in Maiduguri, confirmed the situation but noted that details remain unclear due to the ongoing chaos.
“Yes, our community is under Boko Haram attack. I received a distress call around 6:50 p.m. We cannot confirm casualties yet as people are running for safety,” the source said.
