Foreign Investment in Nigeria: FG Targets UK Deals to Boost Capital Inflows

Foreign investment in Nigeria is receiving renewed attention as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to attract global capital through the UK–Nigeria Trade and Investment Mission held in Abuja.

The two-day engagement brought together key stakeholders from both countries, focusing on converting high-level discussions into bankable investment deals that can strengthen economic ties and boost capital inflows.

How the UK Mission Supports Foreign Investment in Nigeria

According to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), the mission was organised in collaboration with DMA Invest and the UK Department for Business and Trade.

The event also featured participation from the British High Commission and leading private sector players, highlighting strong international interest in foreign investment in Nigeria.

NIPC Pushes for Real Deals, Not Just Talks

The Executive Secretary and CEO of NIPC, Aisha Rimi, emphasised that the goal is to ensure tangible outcomes.

“This Mission is not just about conversations—it is about conversion. Our priority is to ensure that strategic engagements lead to real projects and partnerships that create real impact on Nigeria’s economy,” she said.

Rimi added that foreign investment in Nigeria is being driven by a clear reform agenda aimed at making the country more competitive globally.

Nigeria Sends Strong Message to Global Investors

The Commission noted that the trade mission delivered a strong signal that Nigeria is open and ready for business.

According to NIPC, foreign investment in Nigeria is gaining momentum due to:

  • Ongoing economic reforms
  • Improved institutional coordination
  • A stronger investor-focused approach

The mission included ministerial roundtables, sector-specific discussions, and targeted Business-to-Government (B2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings.

These engagements helped identify bankable investment opportunities across key sectors of the economy.

Investor Confidence in Nigeria on the Rise

The NIPC also highlighted growing investor confidence, citing feedback from DMA Invest, which described the Commission as “the best it has ever been.”

This reflects ongoing improvements in how Nigeria attracts and manages foreign investment, positioning the country as a competitive destination for global capital.

What This Means for Foreign Investment in Nigeria

The renewed push for foreign investment in Nigeria signals a strategic shift toward:

  • Converting partnerships into real economic projects
  • Strengthening bilateral trade relations
  • Driving sustainable economic growth

Experts believe that sustained engagement with global partners like the UK will play a key role in unlocking long-term investment opportunities.

Final Take on Foreign Investment in Nigeria

As Nigeria deepens its reform agenda, foreign investment in Nigeria is expected to rise, supported by improved policies, stronger institutions, and targeted international partnerships.

If successfully implemented, these efforts could significantly boost economic growth, job creation, and investor confidence in Africa’s largest economy.
